Swipe Safe

ChildFund Swipe Safe, launched by ChildFund Australia in 2017, aims to prevent the online abuse and exploitation of children. The program mobilizes parents, youth, schools, and the private sector to play an active role in children’s online safety.

A key project of ChildFund’s WEB Safe & Wise campaign, Swipe Safe is working to enhance the skills and knowledge of young people so they can safely and effectively navigate the online environment.

Swipe Safe is built around six key concepts which guide young people when engaging online:

  • Public: Any information you post or share online, even if you do it privately, has the possibility to be shared or accessed.
  • Permanent: Whatever we post on the internet will remain on the internet forever.
  • Connections: The internet allows us to connect with people all over the world, but not everyone is trustworthy.
  • Anonymity: The internet means that people online can hide who they are. Some people might do this to harm or take advantage.
  • Sources of information: We have access to a lot of information, but it Is important to think about if it is accurate and reliable.
  • Respect: When engaging via our screens we can forget that we are connecting with other people. It is important to be respectful to others, and ourselves.

Just recently, ChildFund has also launched the Swipe Safe App. Available on all mobile devices, this educational resource provides essential information, helping children and young people navigate their digital world safely.
